Easton's Legacy Toy Drive

Each September we lead a memorial toy drive to benefit the children of PCH. This began almost 7 years ago when Kursty and I lost our little boy Easton to his battle with primitive neuroectodermal tumors (pnet, pronounced peanut). Our yearly memorial toy drive, occurring in conjunction with his birthday, is our way to celebrate his life and remember him. Our campaign initially began small with close friends and family participating. However, over the past few years it has grown to include many other groups and organizations in our community.

Once again we have joined up with Derrick and Rochelle Spitzer, the owners of CrossFit Incite to host a memorial fitness event in conjunction with the toy drive. We invite the community and neighboring CrossFit gyms across the Phoenix valley to join us for our workout event and competition. For admission into the event we ask for the donation of a new unopened toy, which will be given to a cancer patient at PCH.

Happy Birthday Easton!

A very heartfelt thank you for all those who came out to Crossfit Incite yesturday and participated in Easton's "WOD". It was awesome to see all the different Crossfit's there! Thank you to Crossfit Mesa, Queen Creek, Desert Valley, San tan & anyone else if I forgot them  for closing down your own box so that your groups could join our cause! The comradery and support that was shown was absolutely amazing and what crossfit is all about! We had such an amazing turn out and collected so many toys for Phoenix Children's hospital, in fact we collected so many toys that we have to wait until Tuesday morning to take them down so that there will be extra staff available to accept them all! Among those that came were parents who have also suffered the loss of a child, I also met a little girl who even told her mom that for her and her sisters birthday they decided to donate their gifts to the toy drive! It was such an amazing day with amazing people and especially awesome to see the kids getting excited about it as well! Thank you so much Coach Derrick and his wife Rochelle for helping us put this event together and thank you so much to all my wonderful family and friends who stayed and helped all morning!Thank you all for helping me spoil the children at PCH and helping me celebrate what would have been Easton's 6th birthday. Happy birthday buddy we love you and miss you everyday!

THIS SATURDAY!!!

I'm so excited I can hardly stand it! In less than 48 hours we will be holding Easton's 5th toy drive to celebrate his birthday! I dread this time of year because I know how sad it makes me feel. My arms still ache to hold my son, sometimes it seems like its been years since Easton passed and other times it seems like just yesturday. I am feeling several emotions right now but to my surprise not the normal and usual sad and depressed feelings I normally have around this time. I feel anxious hoping that I have done enough to make people aware so that they will come and participate. I feel excited because each day I have seen the number of blog hits steadily increase. I feel gratitude to those individuals who aren't going to be able to make it but have given me toys as their way of contributing. Most of all I am amazed and awed at the love and support I have been shown by so many amazing family and friends and I owe a tremendous thank you to my husband for dealing with my jumbled emotions for the last little while, not to mention the several dozen snicker doodles he is making! My family who have all made cookies for saturday. My friends who have been so willing to spread the word about the toy drive and Easton's story. Coach Derrick and his wife Rochelle who opened their doors to us and happily let us invade!
I have had several people say they think I am amazing for doing the toy drive, but I'm not amazing!  I am a parent trying to give my son the biggest and bestest birthday present I can, and thanks to so many wonderful and amazing people that's exactly what we are going to do!

Just a reminder the toy drive will take place Saturday September 22nd, at Crossfit Incite located at 8743 E. Pecos Road #109 Mesa Az, 85212 it will go from 8am -11am with wod's starting every 30 minutes, the buy in to participate is 1 brand new unopened toy to be donated to Phoenix Children's hospital. For those of you who don't crossfit or know little about it our daily workout is called a "Wod" The wod that was chosen to honor Easton is a 20 minute amrap (as many reps as possible) listed below:
200 meter run
13 Burpees
13 Wall Balls
13 Pullups
(Each of the 13 reps in these exercises represent the 13 month's of Easton Life)
This can be a little intimidating for some people especially if you have never done any of these exercises before and have no idea what I am talking about, Don't worry Coach derrick is awesome at modifying these exercises to meet your physical needs and capabilities so that you are still able to participate!

Less than two weeks!

With less than two weeks to go until the toy drive I know I have gotten behind on telling you stories about my Easton, so I am going to tell a couple today, First this picture was taken on a trip we took to visit some of Sean's extended family in Idaho. Those of you who knew Easton remember that he always had a smile plastered to his face. Since the was the case this happens to be the one and only picture we have were he is crying, every time I see it it makes me smile because I think of how happy he was regardless of everything even including the pain his little body was going through at the time.

My next story happened while he was at the hospital. He really did have the best attitude even though he didn't feel well. I felt so bad for him every time they came to put in a new line or take blood, Ever since I can remember I have always had poor veins when it came to Finding a line for iv's etc. well I passed this on to my sweet baby boy so it was never a simple prick and that was it, I had to leave the room whenever they took blood because I simple could not bear to see my son go thru it. Well one day I happened to still be in the room when the nurse came to switch out his iv, my sweet boy was just so sick of being poked and prodded that he decided he was going to see how they like someone digging around in their skin and he bit the nurse! Granted I know she was just trying to help him but it was one of those moments where as a mother I beamed with pride thinking "That's my boy!"
