Easton's Legacy Toy Drive

Each September we lead a memorial toy drive to benefit the children of PCH. This began almost 7 years ago when Kursty and I lost our little boy Easton to his battle with primitive neuroectodermal tumors (pnet, pronounced peanut). Our yearly memorial toy drive, occurring in conjunction with his birthday, is our way to celebrate his life and remember him. Our campaign initially began small with close friends and family participating. However, over the past few years it has grown to include many other groups and organizations in our community.

Once again we have joined up with Derrick and Rochelle Spitzer, the owners of CrossFit Incite to host a memorial fitness event in conjunction with the toy drive. We invite the community and neighboring CrossFit gyms across the Phoenix valley to join us for our workout event and competition. For admission into the event we ask for the donation of a new unopened toy, which will be given to a cancer patient at PCH.

Details!!!

There is only about one week left until the toy drive.  So, I thought I might iron out a few of the details. For those of you who came last year the location has changed.  We have moved into a bigger space in the same complex, just a little further down. We are going to start at 9:00 AM and will go until noon, or until everyone who wants to complete the WOD (Workout Of the Day) has gotten a chance to do so.  Please make sure you come in the front entrance so that you have a chance to sign in. We are expecting a larger crowd than last year, so we will be having participants sign up for heats to make sure there is space available for everyone.  Heats will be running every 30 minutes and there will be a warm up before each .  There will be daycare provided.  However, we ask that you please try to limit the number of small children brought to the gym as we are concerned that the number of children may be overwhelming for the size of the day care room and those watching them. Many have asked me what type of toys to bring. The most important thing to keep in mind is that these children have very compromised immune systems.  So please make sure the items are all new, otherwise the hospital cannot accept them.  The hospital accommodates children ages 0-18 years of age so they will happily accept anything! Once again a huge heartfelt thank you to Coach Derrick Spitzer and his wife Rochelle owners of Crossfit Incite for hosting the event, and a huge thank you in advance to all those planning on attending to help us throw our sweet angel an amazing birthday party!

picture overload

Easton was born September 23, 2006 he was three weeks early and weighed a whopping 6lbs 15 ounces, he was 21 inches long.

This is a picture of his blessing day all three boys of mine have worn this same blessing outfit!

I got a little camera happy one day at the park, Easton was all smiles in his stroller while Daddy and big brother Draysen were flying a kite.

Easton loved hanging out with Daddy and Draysen, he also loved playing in the bath
Out of all the pictures we have of Easton this is the only one we have of he crying and the reason I took it was because he was always such a happy baby and NEVER cried so this was definately a candid!
This picture was taken one month before Easton was diagnosed with brain cancer.

He was very clever and climbed onto and into everything!!

This was Easton's first birthday only a few weeks before he was hospitalized.

This is a picture of him shortly after being hospitalized, he loved to cuddle with the soft toys people would bring him  (this is one of the major reason's why we do the toy drive)

Easton's wod!

We are going to be doing the same workout that we did last year!!! The workout is a 20 minute AMRAP which means as many rounds/reps as possible within 20minutes. The workout consists of a 200 meter run, 13 wall balls, 13 burpees, & 13 pullups. Easton was here with us on earth for 13 months so the 13 in each of the different exercises represents his time with us. workouts will start at 9am and will run in different heats every 30 minutes until 12 or until everyone has participated that wants to:) Again if you want to come by and drop off toys but do not want to workout that is 100% ok also if you have never participated in a crossfit workout don't let the workout intimidate you we have amazing coaches that will be there helping to scale the workout appropriately for those who do wish to participate. If you have any questions feel free to contact me klhatch@cox.net
